Pilar Golf

A Golf Course that many players feel something special about it, but cannot easily put into words. Situated 60 kilometers North of Buenos Aires alongside National Highway # 8, the Club today is the vision of Mr. Piero Vara who launched this ambitious project in the 90’s to built a unique course that resembled an American design with all the comforts and amenities associated with those Courses.

Designed by the Ronald Fream Golf Plan Design Group Ltd., Pilar Golf Club now has 27 holes carved out of what was once flat agricultural land. After tons and tons of earth movement, much landscaping, new forestation, efficient drainage, lakes and streams, this is now one of the most modern and fascinating golf courses in Argentina. Kitted with numerous electric golf carts that help to cover this long and extensive course where walking would prove an additional challenge to the natural challenges of its undulations and sheer size.

Each hole has no less than five tees to choose: Black (Championship Tees); Blue par 36: White par 36; Yellow par 36 and Red par 37. The latter course is the only one in South America that has the longest par 6 of 665 yards.

Essentially a long and undulating course, with wide fairways and low cut rough and strategically placed trees, mostly coniferous. The course has been equipped with a modern fully automated irrigation system. Greens are very slick and fast and added to their varying slopes and shapes make them difficult to read accurately. Several greenside lakes and lateral water hazards make pinpoint fairway driving and accurate iron shots to the green, a must. The mostly large-sized greens, some several levels, sown with Bent Agrostis grass, offer a true and fast run, accentuating their difficulty with some greens having severe readings. Frequent distractions or lack of concentration can easily produce three or even 4-putt Greens!

All Tees have Tifway 419, as well as the fairways and rough. The first 18 holes of the Blue Course and White Course, opened in December 1992, have Penlinks. The last nine holes of the Red Course opened in September 2000, sown with Pencrost grass. The average speed of the greens is 2.70 meters, measured with the Stimpmeter or 10½ feet. Medium to fast greens.

In 2000, the Club inaugurated a beautifully designed and attractive Clubhouse. Very spacious and bright relaxing areas with tasteful furnishings make relaxation after a satisfactory round a very memorable and pleasant moment. The facility at Pilar is very adequately equipped with a spacious driving range, large putting green and bunker practice areas. All available areas, have been magnificently exploited where spaces were not an object.
